Look closely at the Pyramid Gold iPhone Air and its back resolves into a dense field of tiny raised pyramids. This is a hobnail texture of the kind watchmakers call Clous de Paris, here applied to a brand-new, unlocked Apple iPhone Air in our Dubai workshop. Pyramid is one of the fully plated designs in the Prime iPhone Air line-up.
Laid across the middle of that texture is a large polished shield with a chevron outline. Vertical seams split it into sections and visible screw heads hold it down, giving the phone an engineered, almost architectural look against the fine grain around it. Whichever metal you pick — 24K Gold, Rose Gold or Platinum — is plated at 5–7 microns, and none carries a premium over the others.
Plating and Hardware A New Back and Frame, the Same iPhone Inside
We lift off Apple’s rear panel and fit a replacement carrying the hobnail pattern, the shield and the plating. The titanium frame receives the same metal, so the sides and buttons agree with the back. What we never open is the phone itself — its display, A19 Pro processor, cameras, battery and internal parts remain Apple’s work, and 5G, eSIM, Apple Pay, Face ID and iOS updates function as usual.
Charging needs a cable. A plated back stops MagSafe and Qi2 pads from working, so Pyramid tops up through USB‑C.
