Gold Galaxy S26 Ultra or Z Fold8 Ultra? What the Fold Adds, Design by Design
Leronza customises two Samsung flagships in the same six design collections: the slab-style Galaxy S26 Ultra and the book-style Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. Many designs exist on both phones under the same name, which gives you something rare in luxury shopping: a like-for-like comparison. Hold the design constant, change only the phone, and the price difference is the fold itself.
This guide puts the two side by side using live catalogue prices and the details on each product page, including one thing the price tag does not show: the fold is plated less than the slab, not more.
The short answer
The Z Fold8 Ultra costs more than the S26 Ultra in every collection. The gap is widest in proportion at the entry end (the Classic designs cost close to double) and narrowest in proportion at the top (the Evil Eye designs cost roughly 40% more). If you want the lowest price of any gold Samsung at Leronza, it is a Classic S26 Ultra. If you want the fold, the cheapest way in is also a Classic design.
Price range by collection
Each range runs from the lowest starting price of any design in the collection, with a new device at the smallest storage size, up to the highest price at 1 TB. Prices are pulled from the catalogue each time the page loads.
| Collection | Galaxy S26 Ultra | Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra |
|---|---|---|
| Classic | $ 3,010–$ 3,610 | $ 5,880–$ 6,310 |
| Prime | $ 3,560–$ 4,690 | $ 6,450–$ 7,860 |
| Rhodium | $ 4,090–$ 4,690 | $ 7,430–$ 7,860 |
| Exotic Leather | $ 4,370–$ 4,970 | $ 7,580–$ 8,010 |
| Mother of Pearl | $ 4,370–$ 4,970 | $ 7,580–$ 8,020 |
| Evil Eye | $ 6,710–$ 8,780 | $ 9,600–$ 11,490 |
Two details are worth knowing. First, on both phones the collection name describes a family of designs, not a rung on a price ladder: Prime and Rhodium overlap, and on the S26 Ultra the Elite design sits below the other Prime designs. Second, the three metals (24K gold, rose gold and platinum) are priced the same within a design, so the metal never changes the numbers above.
Same design, two phones

What gets plated is not the same on both phones
This is the part a price comparison alone hides. The product pages describe the work differently for each phone:
Galaxy S26 Ultra
- The Armor Aluminum frame is plated on every design, from Classic up.
- Classic designs keep Samsung’s own glass back and plate only the frame and the camera lens rings.
- All other collections replace the glass with a new plated back panel.
Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra
- The frame and the hinge are never plated, on any design. The product pages say this is so the fold keeps its original action.
- Classic designs plate only the rings around the camera lenses.
- Other collections fit a new plated back panel and plate the camera surround to match.
So the extra money on the fold does not buy more metal. It pays for the foldable itself and for a back panel built around the fold, while the S26 Ultra carries a plated frame all the way round.
What you give up, phone by phone
A metal back blocks two signals, wireless charging and the NFC link Samsung Wallet uses for tap-to-pay. Here is what the product pages state for each type of design:
| Design type | S26 Ultra | Z Fold8 Ultra |
|---|---|---|
| Classic (original glass or colourway back, plated rings) | Wireless charging and Samsung Wallet tap-to-pay are unchanged, stated on all four Classic pages. | Expected to work as standard; the product pages say the sales team confirms before you order. |
| Prime and Rhodium (plated back) | Neither works. Charge over USB-C. | Neither works on the designs we checked. Charge over USB-C. |
| Evil Eye (plated back with charm) | Neither works. Charge over USB-C. | Neither works. Charge over USB-C. |
| Exotic Leather and Mother of Pearl | Depends on the configuration; the sales team confirms. | Depends on the configuration; the sales team confirms. |
Storage upgrades cost less on the fold
Both phones are offered in 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB, and both are offered with a new device or your own device. What differs is the size of the storage steps. On the S26 Ultra, each step up adds the same amount. On the Z Fold8 Ultra, the step to 512 GB is less than half of the S26 Ultra step, and 1 TB adds roughly 30% less in total. This pattern holds across every design on the Z Fold8 Ultra and across nearly every design on the S26 Ultra, so the storage upgrade is a smaller part of the fold’s total price than it is of the slab’s. If you were planning on 1 TB regardless, the fold’s price gap to the S26 Ultra narrows slightly at that size.
Which one to choose
Choose the S26 Ultra if
- You want the lowest entry price of any gold Samsung at Leronza.
- Wireless charging and Samsung Wallet matter to you: a Classic design is the one line where the product pages confirm both stay.
- You want the metal wrapped around the frame as well as the back.
- You prefer the S Pen in the phone.
Choose the Z Fold8 Ultra if
- The inner 8.0-inch display is the reason you are buying a Samsung flagship.
- You are happy with metal on the back and rings only, and a frame and hinge that stay as Samsung built them.
- You plan on larger storage, where the fold’s upgrade steps cost less.
- You want to compare against Leronza’s other foldable, covered in Gold iPhone Duo vs Z Fold8 Ultra.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Z Fold8 Ultra more expensive than the S26 Ultra at Leronza?
Yes, in every collection. The gap is proportionally largest on the Classic designs, where the fold costs close to double, and smallest on the Evil Eye designs, where it costs roughly 40% more.
Is the frame plated on the Z Fold8 Ultra?
No. The product pages state that the frame and hinge are never plated on the Z Fold8 Ultra so the fold keeps its original action. On the S26 Ultra the frame is plated on every design.
Which gold Samsung keeps wireless charging and Samsung Wallet?
On the S26 Ultra, the four Classic designs keep Samsung’s glass back and the product pages say both features are unchanged. On the Z Fold8 Ultra, Classic designs are expected to keep them and the sales team confirms before you order. Designs with a fully plated back lose both on either phone.
Do the three metals change the price?
No. Within a design, 24K gold, rose gold and platinum are priced the same on both phones.
Can I use my own Samsung instead of buying a new one?
Yes. Every S26 Ultra and Z Fold8 Ultra design we checked offers a “Use my own device” option next to “Include a new device”. Choose it on the product page to see that price. Our guide to how to gold-plate your own iPhone explains how the send-in process works.
