Count the chevrons and you know which Nucleus you are holding: the Nucleus 3.0 Gold Galaxy Z Fold8 carries four, stacked down the back like a ladder of polished metal. It starts life as a brand-new, unlocked Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8, the wider, passport-shaped foldable that Samsung presents as the world’s lightest. Working by hand at our Dubai atelier, we exchange the glass back for a new panel pressed with a fine interlocking-hexagon relief, and every bar is plated 5–7 microns thick in 24K Gold, Rose Gold or Platinum. It is the boldest piece in our Rhodium line for the Galaxy Z Fold8.
Each bar stretches nearly from edge to edge, dipping into a shallow V at its centre, fastened by tiny screw heads at the tips and centre. The first starts just under the elongated camera island, whose surround is plated to match around both lenses; after the fourth, a quiet run of hexagons leads down to a small GoldPrivé nameplate. Our renders show Noir, and Verdant, Royale Blue, Crimson Red and Rose Fuchsia cost exactly the same. Samsung’s frame and hinge are never plated.
Up Close Metal Outside, Samsung Within
Close in, the design turns graphic: bright band, matt hexagons, repeated four times. Bars, nameplate and camera surround are the only plated parts. Samsung’s Armor FlexHinge and Armor Aluminum frame are left untreated, and we never open the handset, so its 7.6-inch QXGA+ display, 5.5-inch outer display, Snapdragon processor, pair of 50MP rear cameras and 4,800mAh cell remain sealed.
That is why the Nucleus 3.0 Gold Galaxy Z Fold8 behaves like any other Fold8, from Galaxy AI to 5G and eSIM, with Samsung security patches scheduled until 31 July 2033. Two habits do change. Metal across the back stops wireless charging and also the NFC exchange behind Samsung Wallet tap-to-pay, so you charge by USB‑C cable (25W Super Fast Charging) and pay contactless with a card or a second device.
