We begin with a brand-new, unlocked Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and swap its rear glass for a new back panel faced almost entirely in genuine mother of pearl. Its metal parts are plated 5–7 microns thick in 24K Gold, Rose Gold or Platinum, the camera surround shares that finish, and the frame and hinge stay unplated, as Samsung made them. A heavy curb-style chain runs the length of the right-hand side, fixed at top and bottom by round end caps, while the three lenses sit in a polished rounded surround.
