Picture a gilded picture frame and a fine leather portfolio fused into one object and you are close to the Exotic Royale Gold Galaxy Z Fold8. It is built on Samsung’s newest Galaxy Z Fold8, the wide, book-style foldable the company calls the world’s lightest, bought brand-new and unlocked. At our Dubai atelier craftsmen replace its glass back with a new panel plated 5–7 microns deep in 24K Gold, Rose Gold or Platinum, finish the camera surround in the same metal and inlay a generous field of crocodile leather.

The top third is all baroque relief: curling tendrils and blossoms that wrap around the tall camera island. Beneath it, a polished band set with small round studs dips softly across the width and marks the boundary where metal hands over to leather, brown in our renders and edged by slim strips of the same metal. A plated GoldPrivé plaque sits at the very base. Each metal costs the same, and the frame and hinge are never plated.

At close range the two materials could hardly be more different. The scrollwork rises in crisp relief from a brighter ground, catching light on every petal, while the hide below shows deep, glossy scales with a warm, organic irregularity. All of it lives on the replacement back and lens surround. Samsung’s Armor Aluminum frame and Armor FlexHinge are left unplated, and we never open the device, so the 7.6-inch QXGA+ main display, the 5.5-inch cover display, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, both 50MP rear cameras and the 4,800mAh battery stay as Samsung made them.

Which parts are customised?

Only the back. A new panel, plated 5 to 7 microns deep and carrying the scrollwork and crocodile leather, replaces Samsung’s glass, and the camera surround is finished to match. Frame, hinge, screens and internals are left exactly as Samsung built them.
