A brand-new Samsung Galaxy Watch9 comes to our Dubai workshop, where its aluminium case and two buttons are plated at 5–7 microns in 24K Gold, Rose Gold or Platinum. Samsung’s black Sport Band stays exactly as it left the factory. The rest of the line-up lives in our collection of gold Galaxy Watch9 models.
Black is the colour that lets metal do the talking. Next to the smooth, dark band, the plated cushion-shaped case and its round display stand out sharply, yet nothing about the watch feels precious on a morning run, a gym session or a long day of travel. Wear it with trainers at the weekend and with tailoring on Monday.
Precious Case, Samsung Band What Is Plated, and What Is Not
Just two elements carry our plating on this model: the aluminium case and its pair of buttons. Everything else belongs to Samsung. The Sport Band and its pin buckle keep their original black and silver-grey, while the display under its sapphire crystal, the Snapdragon Wear Elite chip, the sensors and the battery are not touched. Nor is the sensor back on the underside.
Leaving that back alone matters when it is time to charge: Samsung’s wireless charger sits against it and works as it always has. Health tracking, workout modes and Wear OS updates behave just as they would on a standard Galaxy Watch9. The band threads through its pin buckle and adjusts there, so getting the fit right is a matter of picking the hole that feels comfortable.

Samsung builds the standard Watch9 to 5ATM and IP68 and tests it to MIL‑STD‑810H. None of that can be relied on once the case has been customised, so keep the watch away from swimming, diving and the shower, even though the band itself was made for sport.
