Exotic Leather, Mother of Pearl or Carbon Fiber: Choosing the Material for Your Gold iPhone 18 Pro
A plated gold iPhone changes the metal. The back panel changes the personality. On the Gold iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, Leronza lets you choose what fills that panel: black crocodile leather, genuine mother of pearl or woven carbon fibre, each framed in 24K Gold, Rose Gold or Platinum. The three look and feel different, they age differently in the hand, and they do not all behave the same way when it comes to wireless charging.
This guide compares the three material collections side by side, explains the four design shapes that repeat across them, and helps you decide which one fits how you actually use your phone. Everything here is drawn from the live product pages, so there is no guesswork about what is on offer.
What stays the same whichever material you pick
Before comparing materials, it helps to know what they share. In every case the material is set into a replacement back panel, and the phone frame is plated to match. Apple’s displays, cameras, battery and internals are never opened or altered. That is why Face ID, Apple Pay, 5G and iOS updates behave as they do on any iPhone 18 Pro, and why the specification – the A20 Pro chip, the 120Hz ProMotion OLED display and the 48MP Fusion camera system – is Apple’s own. The full list is in Apple’s iPhone comparison pages.
Each material is also available for both the iPhone 18 Pro and the larger Pro Max, in four capacities from 256 GB to 2 TB. The finish does not change the price: 24K Gold, Rose Gold and Platinum cost the same. If you are still deciding between gold and the other metals, our guide to solid gold versus gold-plated explains what the plating actually is.
Exotic Leather: warmth you can feel
The Exotic Leather collection uses black crocodile leather, with the scales running the length of the phone. It is the softest-feeling option, and it gives the most grip where the fingers sit. From a distance it is also the least showy; close up, the grain does the talking. Crocodilian skin is a regulated material, covered by the international trade rules described by CITES, so if provenance or cross-border shipping matters to you, ask the team before ordering.
The four designs in this collection are WildGrace, which hands almost the whole back to the leather inside a plated border; Exotic Noble, where a tall leather panel is enclosed on every side by plating; Exotic Royale, which puts baroque engraving on the band around the camera plateau above the leather; and WildGrace Victory, the metal-forward reading with a broad band of grid-textured plating above the hide. Browse them all in the Exotic Leather collection.
Mother of Pearl: light that moves
Mother of pearl is the inner layer of certain shells, known scientifically as nacre. Leronza uses genuine shell, which is why the panel flashes pink, green and silver as the angle changes, and why no two phones are identical. Cool, iridescent shell against warm yellow gold, or against cooler Platinum, is the most delicate look of the three.
The pearl line mirrors the leather line. Majesty covers the whole back panel in shell inside a plated border and is the most shell-rich design. Noble Pearl presents the shell like a jeweller presents a stone, framed by straight metal edges and the most formal composition in the collection. Royale balances engraved scrollwork against a large pearl panel and is described on its product page as the most gifted pearl design. Majesty Victory is the most metal-forward, with a grid-textured band above the shell. See all four in the Mother of Pearl collection.
Carbon Fiber: the understated one
Carbon fibre is a woven composite known from racing cars and aircraft; the carbon fibre overview explains how the weave gets its strength. On the phone, the tight twill reads as a subtle chequer. Matte carbon beside polished metal is the most understated pairing Leronza makes, and it is the choice for people who want the gold to look engineered rather than ornamental.
The designs are CarbonFiber, which fills the back panel with woven carbon in a plated frame; CarbonFiber Noble, the most structured, with the weave enclosed by straight metal borders and a small emblem under the cameras; CarbonFiber Royale, which sets engraved scrollwork against modern weave and is a favourite with car collectors; and CarbonFiber Victory, the most gold-heavy, with textured plating on top and carbon beneath. All four sit in the Carbon Fiber collection.
The four design shapes that repeat
Across all three materials the same four compositions appear, which makes it easy to choose a shape first and a material second.
Full panel
WildGrace, Majesty and CarbonFiber. The material takes the whole back inside a plated border. This is the purest expression of the material and the lowest-priced shape in each collection.
Noble: framed
Exotic Noble, Noble Pearl and CarbonFiber Noble. A tall panel enclosed by straight plated edges, with a small emblem under the camera plateau. Formal and tailored.
Royale: engraved
Exotic Royale, Royale and CarbonFiber Royale. Baroque scrollwork around the camera plateau above the material, with two small fixings marking the join. The most decorative shape.
Victory: textured
WildGrace Victory, Majesty Victory and CarbonFiber Victory. A broad band of grid-textured plating across the top, material below. The most metal-forward shape.
Side by side
| Material | Feel and look | Wireless charging | Price range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Exotic Leather | Soft, grippy, black crocodile grain | Depends on build; confirmed before order | $ 3,990 to $ 6,290 |
| Mother of Pearl | Smooth, iridescent, unique to each phone | Depends on build; confirmed before order | $ 3,990 to $ 6,290 |
| Carbon Fiber | Matte woven twill, understated | Not available; USB-C only | $ 3,990 to $ 6,290 |
Each range runs from the full-panel design at the low end to the more elaborate designs at the top, before storage capacity is chosen. The whole line is in the Gold iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max range.
How to choose
Choose leather if you want a phone that feels warm and secure in the hand and are comfortable with a statement material. Choose mother of pearl if you want the most luminous look, or a gift that is genuinely one of a kind. Choose carbon fibre if you prefer a restrained, technical look and can live without wireless charging. If daily MagSafe charging matters to you, say so first and the team will steer you to a build that supports it.
Think about your daily routine as well. A phone that lives on a MagSafe stand at your desk and in a car mount points to leather or pearl, with the build confirmed in advance. A phone that is plugged in at night and carried in a jacket pocket suits carbon just as well. Ordering, care and warranty
Each phone is made to order. You can pay a 50% deposit or pay in full, customisation takes roughly one to two weeks, and shipping is complimentary, insured and tracked with a signature required. Orders are made to order, so returns are not available, which is why choosing the right material up front matters. Because the finish is a plated surface, our care guide is worth reading, and the warranty explainer sets out exactly what is covered. If you are weighing a ready-made device against a customised one, the cost-rule guide helps. To be sure a phone is genuine before you buy, read how to spot a fake.
Frequently asked questions
What materials can I choose for a Gold iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max back panel?
Leronza offers three material collections for the Gold iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max: Exotic Leather (black crocodile leather), Mother of Pearl (genuine shell) and Carbon Fiber (woven carbon). Each has four designs, and each design comes in 24K Gold, Rose Gold or Platinum.
Does the material change how the iPhone works?
No. The material is set into a replacement back panel and the frame is plated to match. Apple displays, cameras and internals are never opened, so Face ID, Apple Pay and the camera system keep working. Only wireless charging can be affected.
Which material supports MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging?
Carbon Fiber editions do not support it, because the panel behind the carbon is metal; they charge over USB-C. For Exotic Leather and Mother of Pearl, wireless charging depends on the build, and the sales team confirms your exact configuration before you order.
Is the mother of pearl real?
Yes. The Mother of Pearl designs use genuine shell. Because nacre is a natural material, no two panels are exactly alike, and the colour flashes of pink, green and silver shift with the angle of the light.
Does the finish change the price?
No. 24K Gold, Rose Gold and Platinum are priced the same within a design. The price moves with the design and the storage capacity you choose, from 256 GB up to 2 TB.
