Gold iPhone 16 or a Newer Gold iPhone? Same Design, Three Generations, Live Prices
Leronza still lists a small Gold iPhone 16 range beside the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro collections. Two of its designs, Elite and Flora, are also sold on both newer generations under the same name, so you can hold the design constant and see what the newer phone adds to the price.
This guide does that with live catalogue prices, then covers the two designs you can only get on an iPhone 16 and the limits of the older range, such as storage.
The short answer
Whether the iPhone 16 saves you much depends on the design. At current catalogue prices, an Elite iPhone 16 Pro costs roughly a quarter less than the same Elite design on the iPhone 18 Pro. For Flora the gap is under a tenth, small enough that many buyers who want Flora will prefer the newer phone. The iPhone 16 range is also the only place to buy the Aurum crocodile-pattern design and the Roar tiger design.
Same design, three generations
Prices are for 24K Gold at 256 GB with a new device included. Rose Gold and Platinum cost the same. Click a price to open the product page.
| Design and size | iPhone 16 | iPhone 17 | iPhone 18 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Elite, Pro | $ 2,690 | $ 3,490 | $ 3,590 |
| Elite, Pro Max | $ 2,990 | $ 3,690 | $ 3,790 |
| Flora, Pro | $ 3,890 | $ 4,090 | $ 4,190 |
| Flora, Pro Max | $ 4,090 | $ 4,290 | $ 4,390 |
Elite is a plain plated back that can be engraved with a name, initials, logo or crest. Flora is a baroque-style engraved pattern. Both are described on their product pages in all three generations.
Worked example: what the older phone actually saves
Take a buyer choosing a 24K Gold Pro at 256 GB.
- Elite: the iPhone 16 Pro is $ 2,690 and the iPhone 18 Pro is $ 3,590. At today’s prices that is the biggest saving anywhere in this comparison, enough that the older phone is a real budget option.
- Flora: the iPhone 16 Pro is $ 3,890 and the iPhone 18 Pro is $ 4,190. Here the newer phone costs only slightly more.
So before settling on the older phone, check the same design on the newest generation: for some designs the difference is large, for others it is small.
Storage: where the iPhone 16 stops
The iPhone 16 Pro designs are offered at 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB. The iPhone 17 Pro Max and both iPhone 18 Pro sizes add a 2 TB option, so if you keep years of 4K video on the phone, the newer generations are the only choice.
| Elite, 24K Gold, Pro Max | Largest storage | Price at that size |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone 16 Pro Max | 1 TB | $ 3,690 |
| iPhone 17 Pro Max | 2 TB | $ 4,890 |
| iPhone 18 Pro Max | 2 TB | $ 5,390 |
The two designs only the iPhone 16 range has
Aurum
A pattern taken from the skin of the Nile crocodile, plated in 24K Gold, Rose Gold or Platinum. It is currently priced the same as Flora on the iPhone 16 Pro: from $ 3,890. There is no Aurum listing in the iPhone 17 or 18 ranges at the time of writing.
Roar
Black rhodium plating with real crocodile leather and a 3D tiger emblem in 24K gold. It comes in one finish only, with no metal choice. It is the only design for the standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus (from $ 1,730) and the iPhone 16e (from $ 1,590).
Starting prices across the gold iPhone lines
These are the lowest live starting prices in each range, across all designs. They are useful for setting a budget, though the cheapest design in one range is not always the same design in another.
| Range | Starts at |
|---|---|
| Gold iPhone 16 | $ 1,590 |
| Gold iPhone Air | $ 2,390 |
| Gold iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max | $ 2,799 |
| Gold iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max | $ 2,990 |
Which one to choose
Choose the iPhone 16 if
- You want Elite and the budget matters most.
- You want Aurum or Roar, which are not offered on newer models.
- You want a standard-size iPhone 16, 16 Plus or 16e rather than a Pro.
- 1 TB of storage is enough.
Choose the iPhone 17 Pro or 18 Pro if
- You want Flora, where the saving on the older phone is small.
- You need 2 TB.
- You want the newest camera and chip. Apple’s own iPhone comparison tool shows the hardware differences.
- You already own an iPhone 18 Pro: Elite and Flora on the iPhone 18 Pro offer a “use my own iPhone” option, explained in our send-in guide.
If you are already deciding between the two newest generations, our iPhone 17 Pro Max vs 18 Pro Max comparison covers that price gap design by design.
Questions buyers ask
Is the gold iPhone 16 cheaper than the gold iPhone 18 Pro?
Yes for every shared design, but by very different amounts. On Elite the iPhone 16 Pro is roughly a quarter cheaper than the iPhone 18 Pro at current prices; on Flora the difference is under a tenth.
Are the gold iPhone 16 models unlocked?
Yes. The product pages state that each phone comes factory unlocked and works with most carriers worldwide that support the model.
Can I choose rose gold or platinum on every iPhone 16 design?
On Elite, Flora and Aurum, yes, at the same price as 24K Gold. Roar comes in a single black rhodium finish with a 24K gold tiger, so there is no metal choice.
What is the most storage I can get on a gold iPhone 16?
1 TB on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max designs, and 512 GB on Roar. If you need 2 TB, choose the iPhone 17 Pro Max or the iPhone 18 Pro range.
Does a plated iPhone 16 Pro support wireless charging?
Leronza does not support wireless charging on plated or stone-set backs, so plan to charge the Elite, Flora and Aurum designs by cable. For Roar, ask the team before ordering.
