The Gold Shure Supernova Microphone is our crystal piece: a Shure wireless handheld hand-set with genuine Swarovski crystals in champagne gold, beneath an SM58 grille plated in 24K Gold, Rose Gold or Platinum. Under the sparkle is a Shure BLX24/SM58 system. The BLX2 handheld carries the SM58 capsule with its cardioid pickup and talks to the BLX4 receiver over analogue UHF. A one-touch frequency scan finds a clear channel, and up to 12 systems can share one frequency band. The price stays the same whichever grille metal you choose.

The BLX2 handheld body is hand-set in our atelier with genuine Swarovski crystals, shown here in champagne gold, with the controls left uncovered so they work as usual. The SM58 grille is plated at 5–7 microns in 24K Gold, Rose Gold or Platinum. These photographs are older ones showing the 24K Gold grille; the other two metals are paired with the same crystal body.
The capsule, transmitter electronics, controls and BLX4 receiver are all left as Shure made them, so the Gold Shure Supernova Microphone sounds like the SM58 performers know and links to its receiver in the normal way. The handheld runs on two AA batteries. There is no water rating; keep it well away from liquids.

Treat the crystals to a soft, dry brush and the grille to a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. No abrasive or chemical cleaners and no soaking: a gentle wipe of the grille is enough to sanitise it. Keep perfume and hand cream off both crystal and metal, and store the microphone in its pouch or case.

How do I clean the crystals?
