The Gold Shure SM58 keeps that familiar shape and that familiar voice, and alters only the surface: the die-cast body and the ball grille arrive mirror-plated in 24K Gold, Rose Gold or Platinum. Shure’s engineering stays exactly where it was. A dynamic cartridge with a cardioid pickup favours the voice in front of it and rejects much of what comes from behind, a pneumatic shock mount quietens handling noise, and the built-in pop filter softens hard consonants. It plugs into any mixer with an ordinary XLR lead. Each of the three metals carries the same price.

Two parts receive the metal: the die-cast body and the spherical steel-mesh grille. Both are finished by electroplating at 5–7 microns and then polished to a mirror. The cartridge, the pneumatic shock mount, the pop filter, the internal wiring and the XLR connector are left as Shure made them, so the Gold Shure SM58 sounds and handles like every SM58 you have sung into. Nothing in the signal path is changed. Pickup pattern, frequency response and output level are Shure’s own, because the plating sits on the outside only and never touches the sound. On a festival stage or in a rehearsal room it behaves as it always has. There is no water rating, so keep the microphone away from drinks and rain.

After each performance, wipe the plated body with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth, and never reach for abrasive or chemical cleaners. To freshen the grille, pass the cloth over it gently; do not soak it. Perfume and hand cream should stay off the metal, and the microphone belongs in its zippered storage bag once the set is over.
