The Nazar, Set in Enamel

LuxEvil Charm Gold iPhone Duo centres on the nazar — the concentric blue eye of Anatolian and Mediterranean tradition — executed as a fired enamel disc set flush into the folded outer panel and ringed in 24K Gold, Rose Gold or Platinum. Four rings of colour are laid and fired in sequence: dark cobalt, pale blue, white and a black pupil, each cooled before the next goes down. Fired enamel is glass, so unlike a printed disc it will not fade and can be polished if it ever dulls.

Ring, Setting and Frame on the Gold iPhone Duo

The gold ring around the disc is milled as a bezel rather than applied as a border, which holds the enamel mechanically and protects its edge from the knocks a folding device takes in a pocket. Around it the chassis is plated to match at 5 to 7 microns. Diamonds can be pavé-set into the bezel ring, and the hinge spine can be set to match if you want the ornament carried across the device.

Enamel, Not Print

A printed blue disc under lacquer will fade and cannot be repaired. Vitreous enamel is powdered glass fused at temperature: the colour is the material itself, it does not lose saturation, and a dulled surface can be re-polished years later. Four separate firings are needed for the nazar's concentric rings, which is what separates this edition from a decal.
