Nacre Cut and Laid by Hand

Majesty inlays hand-cut mother of pearl across both folding panels, set into channels milled from the chassis and framed in 24K Gold, Rose Gold or Platinum. Nacre is cut from shell in thin plates, shaped individually and laid piece by piece — there is no sheet material that produces this, and the faint irregularity between adjacent pieces is what makes the surface move as the device is tilted. On a foldable the effect doubles, because the two panels catch light at different angles once opened.

Sealing Nacre at the Hinge

Shell is brittle and a folding device flexes, so the inlay stops short of the pivot and the gold frame carries the stress across the spine. Each panel is sealed with a clear protective layer once laid, then polished flush with the surrounding metal. The frame can be left plain or diamond-set; against the pale iridescence of nacre, a set spine reads particularly well.
